Prior to joining Grandbridge Real Estate Capital under the Collateral Real Estate Capital banner in 2003, Mr. Dempsey was a director for L. J. Melody & Company. While at L. J. Melody, he helped manage the regional production office and originated and placed construction, bridge, mezzanine and permanent loans and equity for clients across the country. Mr. Dempsey quickly became a top producer for L. J. Melody; twice finishing in the top 10 nationally in total production and winning the “Top Producer in Midwest Award” in 2001.

Prior to joining L. J. Melody in 1999, he spent seven years with Beacon Realty Capital, Inc., a privately held mortgage banking and brokerage firm based in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Dempsey’s responsibilities with the firm included all aspects of originating, placement and closing of debt and equity transactions for real estate. As the youngest member of Beacon Realty’s five producers, he was the top producer in number of transactions closed for 1998 and 1999. Prior to this, he spent five years in Los Angeles with Bond Financial Group, working first as an analyst and progressing to vice president, and was responsible for originating, placing and closing loans.

Mr. Dempsey has extensive experience in the origination, structuring, placement and closing of multiple product types including industrial, office, retail, hotel, multifamily, affordable housing and condominium and office conversions. Approximately 70% of his closed loans were permanent financing and forward commitments, with the remaining 30% split between construction financing, higher leverage structured finance and equity placement.

Born and raised in Menomonee Falls, Wis., on Milwaukee’s northwest side, he earned both a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Science in real estate appraisal and investment analysis under Dr. James A. Graaskamp from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Mr. Dempsey is a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association and holds a real estate broker’s license in Ill., and is a licensed loan solicitor in the state of Wisconsin.
