Richard Thomas, a senior vice president and product manager for seniors housing with Grandbridge Real Estate Capital (a subsidiary of BB&T), has a depth of real estate and banking experience spanning two decades and ranging from commercial loan workouts, asset management and disposition to debt and equity placement. Since 2003, Mr. Thomas has focused solely on the seniors housing industry as a provider of debt and equity capital as well as advisory services to seniors housing clients nationwide.

Over the past nine years, he has originated and closed more than $4 billion in seniors housing loan, sales and advisory transactions and consistently earned top company and lender production awards. The success of the seniors housing team is the direct result of their ability to innovate, craft solutions, and focus on the surety of execution. They proudly create unparalleled value for their clients on each and every transaction.

Prior to joining Grandbridge, Mr. Thomas was a director with Collateral Real Estate Capital, LLC, which was acquired by BB&T Corporation’s principal subsidiary Branch Banking and Trust Company in November of 2007. Collateral was subsequently merged with BB&T’s existing commercial real estate and servicing platform, Laureate Capital, LLC. The merged entities were renamed Grandbridge Real Estate Capital LLC, which today is one of the largest full-service commercial and multifamily mortgage banking companies in the nation.

Mr. Thomas received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Berry College in Rome, Georgia, in 1991 and earned his Master of Business Administration with a concentration in real estate from Georgia State University in 1999. He is an executive board member of the American Seniors Housing Association and an active participant in the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industry (NIC). He has consistently presented at NIC, Regional NIC, and ASHA events. Additionally, he has been a guest speaker for ULI programs, BISNOW’s Atlanta Seniors Housing Summit, and recently was a featured guest on the nationally syndicated “Commercial Real Estate Show” (radio).
